Case Study Research on Teacher Performance and Integrity in Kenya (TePIK)

In 2015, the British Council supported the Kenyan Teachers’ Service Commission to implement the Teacher Performance and Integrity in Kenya (TePIK) pilot project funded by DfID. Its aim was to improve learning outcomes through strengthening teacher performance, development and management.

Country/Region: Kenya
Dates/Duration: 2015
Funded by: DFID
Clients: British Council

Following the pilot, CGA was selected to lead evaluation of the pilot and provide recommendations on a nationwide scale up. We conducted a case study assessment of participating schools and monitored the impact of a new teacher appraisal system on teacher absenteeism, learning outcomes, teacher practice and contact hours. We conducted case studies in four counties and our final report provided recommendations for potential future expansion, as well as for the Teacher management sector in general.
