3D for TRACE Nigeria: multi-partner intelligent data management
TRACE — Traceability and Resilience in Agriculture and Cocoa Ecosystems — is a five-year $21.9 million programme funded by the United States Department of Agriculture under Food for Progress and implemented by Lutheran World Relief. It works to raise productivity in Nigeria's cocoa value chain by training smallholder farmers in improved agricultural practices and strengthening buyer–seller relationships.
CGA Technologies built the central data system for TRACE Nigeria on 3D, its intelligent data platform for project delivery. Twenty-five implementing partners register farmers and record training in one database — each seeing only their own records — giving the programme oversight of the registration, training and participation data of more than 113,000 cocoa farmers across 2,475 communities and six states.

Activities and Outputs
CGA designed, built and supports the programme's data system on 3D, its intelligent data platform for project delivery, working closely with the TRACE project team — from the structure of the programme database and the data collection forms used in the field, to partner access controls and the dashboards the programme reports from. CGA trained the TRACE team and partner field staff on the system, and continues to support and adapt it as the programme's needs change.
3D enables TRACE to collect, manage and analyse programme data in one database:
- Farmer registration, training records, programme activities and annual survey data (including yield and sales) is connected across six states: Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ekiti, Ondo and Osun
- All 25 implementing partners — including cocoa trading houses and exporters that manage farmers commercially — work in the same system, with each seeing only their own records
- Field agents collect data through forms in the 3D mobile app, offline where there is no signal, with each submission attaching to the farmer's existing record
- Every submission is checked and approved before it enters the database
- The MEL team and programme leadership see registration and training across all partners on live dashboards, as data arrives
Programme leadership uses the same system to report to USDA — giving the donor and its partners the oversight and accountability that Food for Progress requires.
